Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity in the Predictive Safety Center (PSC) within Regulatory Sciences for a Microbial Postdoc Research Scientist. The selected candidate will lead the research project that is focusing on investigating soil microbial distribution and functionality shifting under the various environmental influences. This position is located in Indianapolis, IN.

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will serve as the lead scientist to investigate microbial community structure change under various conditions, and leverage the outcome to enhance the understanding of environmental behavior of chemicals.
  • Establish the multi-year strategy in soil microbial research focusing on understanding the soil microbial change under various conditions, and how it can be utilized to understand the chemical behavior in the environment
  • Establish the lab capabilities for delivering the strategy.
  • Lead the lab assay/study design, development and implementation towards the delivery of the research strategy.
  • Perform data analysis, processing and interpretation of DNA/RNA sequencing data, WGS data from lab, and provide scientific interpretation and judgement to relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as the microbial subject matter expert to provide scientific guidance to relevant projects.
  • Collaborate with internal cross functional teams to explore a variety of approaches in microbial research area and utilize the information to delivery project success.
  • Collaborate externally bringing new technologies into PSC to enhance capability, and help to shape the regulatory landscape in microbial area.

The successful candidate may also have additional responsibility that includes:

  • Overseeing external studies to assess product safety in microbial area including assay development, protocol preparation, interaction with lab scientists, critical evaluation of data, problem solving, and biostatistical competency in the reporting of results;
  • Keeping current with developments in microbial research area, and providing technical expertise and support to regulatory science, registration and business teams;

Qualifications


Requirements:
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • PhD in environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, environmental science, environmental engineering or related disciplines
  • Experience with wet-lab microbiological techniques (strain isolation and characterization, fluorescence microscope) and molecular techniques (e.g., DNA or RNA extraction, qPCR).
  • Experience with DNA/RNA sequencing,WGS data generation and 'omics datasets' analysis
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment - excellent communication, exchanging ideas with colleagues, sharing workload, and interacting with supervisors
  • Keen interest in working in a dynamic, exciting industry and applying scientific information for the protection of environmental health
  • Publication record in the peer-reviewed literature reflecting intellectual leadership and scientific creativity.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experiences with soil health
  • Experiences with synthetic soils
  • Experiences with bioinformatics, microbial community and microbial functionality analysis
  • Experiences with stable isotope techniques and microfluidics
  • Experiences with biological pesticides and biostimulants is a plus.
