Corteva Agriscience has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Synthetic Chemist located in Indianapolis, IN. The successful candidate will be responsible for design and synthesis of novel organic compounds for crop protection, pest and vegetation management. The primary objective of this position is to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to discover and exploit leads in our Discovery effort.
The job role will also include the following:
Interface with biologists, biochemists and computational chemists to generate and exploit opportunities.
Generate and execute ideas based on a sound biological hypothesis.
Design & synthesis of novel molecules to meet project needs.
Analysis of biological data to drive structure activity relationship (SAR).
Generate sound data, document, communicate, and provide clear interpretation of it.
Establish and deliver long-term technical leadership in the area of synthetic organic chemistry and SAR.
Experience in synthetic methodologies, synthesis problem-solving, and total synthesis
Knowledge of broad separation technologies and characterization techniques
Implements a range of effective communication methods that inform and influence.
Track record of effectively utilizing organizational networking to influence decision making
Demonstrated expertise and coach for application of scientific principles, theory and experimental design to solve novel experimental needs across numerous disciplines (e.g. design of experiment)
Examples of creative solutions outside of specific role
A track record of technical publications, highly effective communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, teamwork, and demonstrated leadership is essential for success
A minimum of a PhD in Chemistry is required with 1-5 years of industrial experience in a Discovery synthesis laboratory or internship.
Candidates must have a keen interest in working in a Discovery environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Qualified candidate is expected to work safely and independently in a lab setting and have experience with a variety of laboratory equipment.
Experience in synthesis of a variety of heterocyclic systems and natural product modification is preferred, but not required.
Working knowledge of plant biology and biochemistry is preferred.
A track record of highly effective communication, interpersonal skills, and teamwork, is essential.
Ideal candidate must have a track record of self development and personal leadership.
