Corteva Agriscience is a global leader of seed, crop protection, and digital solutions in agriculture. We have an opening in our R&D organization for an entry level research scientist to work at the intersection of world class statistics, computer science and seed product design to bring the power of accelerated genetic gain to our customers. This position will reside within the Systems and Innovations for Breeding and Seed Products Biostatistics team. This team discovers, adapts and develops state of the art statistical methodology and computational algorithms that convert into actionable knowledge real time, high volume data streams that inform Cortevas Seed Product Design.

We are looking for an inquisitive, detailed oriented, eager to learn and contribute mathematical statistician with interest in plant science and seed product design who wants to join a world class Biostatistics team.

How will you help us grow? It matters to us, and it matters to you!

  1. Leverage state-of-the-art statistical methodologies and algorithms within a decision theory framework to help optimize Cortevas Seed Product Design, including
    • Research, develop and help implement Bayesian neural networks to aid industrial decision processes for phenotypic, genomic and process data streams
    • Research, develop and help implement mixed linear models and dimension reduction techniques to aid the seamless incorporation of novel process data streams
    • Research, develop and help implement sampling and estimation procedures to optimize industrial batch decision process flow.
\t2. Collaborate with Data Science experts to implement high throughput analytic systems into internal analysis systems and pipelines.
\t3. Collaborate with Seed Product design scientists working in geographies spanning the globe to understand biological questions and develop statistical solutions to complex questions..
\t4. Provide specialized consultation and training to key decision makers and stakeholders on how to best leverage decision theory to make optimized high volume data driven decisions. 
\t5. Participation in external collaborations and scientific publications is encouraged.



What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • PhD in Mathematical Statistics or Statistics
  • A solid foundation in decision theory, a strong interest in applied mathematics and in deep learning techniques.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds.
  • Solid foundation in statistical analysis methods, including mixed linear models, dimension reduction techniques, and standard and Bayesian neural networks
  • Demonstrated statistical computing skills:  knowledge of R, Python or related programming and scientific computing tools and the ability to manage and manipulate large data sets. Willingness to actively participate, guide, develop, test, and deploy internal analysis software systems.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of plant breeding, quantitative genetics and understanding of commercial seed business are a plus.
