We are looking for an inquisitive, creative, eager to learn, early career scientist with interest in virtual phenotyping for seed product design.
Responsibilities - What You Will Do:
* Help develop, deploy, and characterize state-of-the-art Biological Model - Whole Genome Prediction (BioWGP) methodologies to improve genetic gain in Corteva's breeding programs.
* Collaborate with Biostatistics and Scientific Computing experts to validate and integrate high throughput BioWGP analytical software systems into Corteva's analytics and decision software systems.
* Collaborate with relevant Corteva experts to translate key biological and developmental processes into mathematical models. Assist with the design, implementation, and validation of software representations of the selected mathematical models.
* Collaborate with relevant Corteva experts to evaluate and leverage image analysis-based software systems to complement BioWGP systems for accelerated seed product design.
* Engage with external collaborators when needed, and actively lead or contribute towards scientific manuscripts describing the scientific work being performed.
QualificationsExperience and Education Requirements
* PhD in Applied Mathematics or Statistics with demonstrated ability to work with biological data; or PhD in Biological Sciences with heavy focus on mathematical modelling of growth and development processes.
* A solid foundation, passion, and interest in scientific programming of mathematical models describing biological and developmental mechanisms and processes.
* Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds.
Technical Requirements
* Solid foundation in mathematical modelling and statistical analysis methods, including mixed linear models, dimension reduction techniques, and longitudinal data analysis. Knowledge of and experience with Bayesian Hierarchical models is a plus.
* Demonstrated scientific computing and programming skills in Python, R, Julia, or related scientific computing languages. Ability and confidence to manage and manipulate large data sets. Willingness to develop, test, and deploy internal analysis software.
* Knowledge of technical aspects of plant breeding, physiology and quantitative genetics are a plus but not a requirement. Willingness to learn about and operate in a commercial seed business setting.
