Location: Remote (Canada) with travel throughout Canada and occasional international travel
Lead the Future of the Canadian Limousin Breed
The Canadian Limousin Association (CLA) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking General Manager to lead the Association and support the continued growth and success of the Canadian Limousin industry.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the General Manager serves as the Association’s chief administrative officer and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. This role provides strategic leadership while overseeing administration, finances, staff, registry services, member communications, marketing, industry partnerships, and national programs.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the Canadian beef industry and enjoys working with producers, volunteers, industry partners, and a national Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and management of the Canadian Limousin Association.
- Implement the strategic direction established by the Board of Directors.
- Manage the daily operations of the Association.
- Ensure the Association operates efficiently while delivering exceptional service to members.
Board Governance
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and Association staff.
- Prepare agendas, reports, minutes, and meeting packages for Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting.
- Support Board committees and implement Board decisions.
- Provide regular operational and financial updates to the Board.
Financial & Office Management
- Prepare and manage the Association’s annual operating budget.
- Oversee accounts payable and financial reporting.
- Review invoices and approve expenditures.
- Ensure contracts, insurance, leases, and service agreements remain current.
- Oversee office operations, equipment, supplies, and promotional inventory.
Human Resources
- Recruit, hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Association staff.
- Prepare employment agreements.
- Manage payroll administration and staff performance.
- Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative workplace culture.
Registry & Member Services
- Provide leadership for registry operations.
- Respond to member inquiries and resolve complex issues.
- Work with DigitalBeef and service providers to address registry system improvements.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service for Association members.
Program Administration
Oversee Association programs including:
- Limousin Tag Program
- Elite Herd Program
- Elite Dam Program
- Award of Distinction
- Limousin Promoter of the Year
- Special projects and industry programs as assigned
Communications & Marketing
- Coordinate member communications through newsletters, email campaigns, website updates, and social media.
- Develop marketing materials using Adobe InDesign and other design software.
- Coordinate advertising campaigns and promotional initiatives.
- Maintain consistent CLA branding across all communications.
Industry Relations
Represent the Canadian Limousin Association by building and maintaining relationships with:
- Provincial Limousin Associations
- Canadian and international breed associations
- Industry organizations
- Genetic evaluation partners
- Agricultural stakeholders and sponsors
Genetic Evaluation & Registry Support
- Review weekly genetic evaluations.
- Respond to genetic evaluation and Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) inquiries.
- Coordinate with genetic consultants and DNA service providers.
- Support registry staff in resolving DNA and pedigree issues.
Shows, Sales & Events
- Coordinate and compile national show and sale results.
- Administer annual awards and recognition programs.
- Represent the Association at industry conferences, Board meetings, annual meetings, and major cattle events across Canada.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- Post-secondary education in agriculture, business, communications, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Leadership experience in a management or executive role.
- Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
- Experience working with Boards of Directors, committees, and volunteers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign and database management systems is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Canadian beef industry or seedstock sector is preferred.
- Ability to travel throughout Canada and occasionally internationally.
