YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Functional Safety Engineer, are to: 

 

  • Evaluate tactical decisions and long-term direction for functional safety related needs at the site;
  • Make regular proof-testing of process control safety-loops;
  • Develop protocols, control quality of documentation, and storage of records;
  • Be responsible for development and maintenance of the Functional Safety Management System and steps  (documentation/support/execution);
  • Develop and ensure documentation is created, followed, and audited (gate-keeper), Proof test procedures, Safety Requirement Specification (SRS), SIS calculations, Prior Use and Analyzer qualification;
  • Work on creation, retention, and maintenance of Functional Safety Documentation;
  • Perform functional safety assessments on new or modified functions and develop and applies management system protocol for site;
  • Analyze site and plant performance issues related to functional safety, leading to proposal and implementation of sound technical solutions;
  • Perform preliminary SIL calculations for proposed measures, leading to successful completion of PHAs;
  • Ensure adherence to functional safety procedures, guidelines, design standards, and safeguards across the site as a subject matter expert;
  • Lead or represent site on corporate teams;
  • Maintain an understanding of site operations, attend project reviews and review management of changes for manufacturing area to determine safety impact on an independent basis;
  • Foster experience exchange and promotes knowledge transfer with other site engineers;
  • Promote continued development of self and area personnel through peer coaching and providing constructive feedback.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline;
  • At least seven years of engineering experience overall including at least four years as PCT Plant, Instrumentation or PCT Project Engineer Experience with DCS and PLCs;
  • Knowledge in SIS, SIL, and SRS;
  • Correctly analyze problems;
  • Think independently and develop imaginative and unique solutions to problems;
  • Deal effectively with changing situations and maintain composure in pressure or conflict situations;
  • Understand the requirements of the job and apply knowledge;
  • Evaluate and select alternatives based on realistic limits and different perspectives, understand the full implication of actions before proceeding;
  • Consistently motivate self, take calculated risks, make timely decisions, improve results, persist despite opposition and obstacles;
  • Express ideas and information, orally and/or in writing, in a clear, concise and understandable manner, use active listening skills;
  • Be able to guide and train teams in local and global projects.
