Protein Science Intern 

 

PURPOSE

We are seeking a highly motivated student for an intern position on the Structure and Mechanism Team within Bayer Crop Science. In this role, the student will contribute to the development and utilization of assays to study peptides of interest to crop science. This position will also involve molecular cloning, protein synthesis/analysis, and cell culture and transfection. While the successful applicant will be expected to have some knowledge of protein science, there will be an ongoing opportunity to learn more advanced techniques. This position offers an exceptional career development opportunity for a prospective student with an interest in biochemistry and biotechnology, with special emphasis on agricultural improvement. 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Hypothesis creation, experimental design, execute and troubleshoot experiments for desired outcome.
  • Develop and run enzyme activities
  • Cloning, expressing and purifying proteins in model systems
  • Comparative enzymology on purified enzymes
  • Basic protein analytical techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, western blots)
  • Proper documentation of experiments and maintain thorough records
  • Use of equipment such as FPLC, HPLC spectrophotometers, mass spectrophotometers

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently working on a Masters degree or above Specialization in Biology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to learn and apply new concepts and techniques
  • Troubleshooting
  • Work in diverse team environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Good record keeping
  • Interest to read literature and learn
