YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Geotechnical Engineer Pit Geologist, are to: 

 

  • Develop, update, and maintain accurate geologic maps of the active mining areas;
  • Be the owner of the geomechanically drilling and mapping program to gather structural properties and material strengths of the ore reserve and surrounding geologic materials;
  • Lead mine pit slope analysis and design work for current and future mining operations using above mentioned structural data to ensure acceptable factor of safety while mining;
  • Work closely with engineering staff members to insure use of proper slope designs in development of safe and efficient pit designs;
  • Use Trimble survey gear, Leica Total Stations, Maptek Lidar to collect and interpret slope stability data;
  • Own and develop the slope stability monitoring program in mine operations including the quartzite quarry, this includes after hours support directly related to slope stability safety concerns;
  • Maintain and update the ore body model to reflect new structural geology and chemistry as new data becomes available;
  • Develop, publish, and maintain annual ore chemistry estimates;
  • Own and maintain master computerized geologic database and be key in developing and updating the site orebody model;
  • Oversee and manage slope stability engineering consultants to achieve safe, practical and cost effective mine plan modifications and designs;
  • Manage and track geotechnical drilling budgets;
  • Plan and direct exploration drilling as well as in pit slope stability drilling programs.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geologic Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mine Engineering with at least seven years of mining ore geologic experience or a Master’s degree in related field with at least four years of experience;
  • Slope Stability monitoring;
  • Experience with geologic sampling techniques and procedures;
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with computer-based slope analysis, surveying, and drafting software (Arc GIS, Maptek Sentry, Maptek Points, Rockslide, Dips, Auto Cad, Leica Geomos Analyzer, and Geomos Monitor);
  • Knowledge of phosphate mining ore sedimentary geology;
  • Surveying experience.
