Functional Safety E&I Project Engineer
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Functional Safety E&I Proj Eng, are to:
- Functional Safety Responsibilities:
- Obtain a good understanding of the Legacy Monsanto Interlock Guidelines and Bayer Functional Safety Procedures;
- Work with Functional Safety Project Manager to prioritize and implement projects to support Bayer migration and PHA efforts;
- Support Safety Requirement Specification (SRS) development for each Process Area / Plant;
- Plant Wide/Program Initiatives;
- Provide a basis for utilization of instruments/valves based on Bayer Functional Safety procedures;
- Provide prior Use Justification assessments;
- Utilize SIL rated components;
- Develop or append Luling's "Prior Use" or grandfathering list;
- Determine if we can use as is vs having to purchase new/different components;
- Perform evaluation to continue using existing equipment or change to different components;
- Project Engineering:
- Lead electrical design aspects of company projects;
- Manage and execute project related activities associated with field modifications including scope development and cost estimates;
- Ensure MOC created for all changes;
- Writing AR's;
- Updating/rewriting test procedures (good time to make procedures consistent across the site);
- Redlining loop and schematic drawings;
- Updating instrument specification sheets;
- Communicate contractor support needs to E & I Construction coordinator;
- Verify finalized PHA action item list vs updated interlock list;
- Develop equipment schedules and material takeoffs; prepare requests for bids;
- Prepare construction and equipment specifications, including means and methods;
- Perform field QA/QC to ensure construction work is performed in accordance with design specification;
- Assist in equipment commissioning and startup, and operational troubleshooting as necessary coordination and management of material vendors, subcontractors, and company staff;
- Maintain and report on a project budget and schedule to meet project expectations.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
- At least eight years engineering experience;
- Knowledge in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Level (SIL), Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS);
- Familiarity with industrial electrical theories, engineering codes, standards, and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP);
- Strong written and communications skills;
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills;
- Lead multi-functional teams;
- Strong safety ethic and mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 5 years’ experience in chemical / petrochemical industry setting or similar;
- Experience and practical knowledge with International Electrotechnical Commission Standard IEC 61508.
