Senior Manager, Fermentation - Decatur, IL

ADM, a global leader in human and animal nutrition and the world's premier agricultural origination and processing company, has an opening for a Senior Manager, Fermentation at our Corporate Research center located in Decatur, IL!
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to lead our Fermentation group - optimizing fermentation processes and leading a team of ~25 scientists and fermentation technicians working at 7.5L to 1000L scales!
This position will lead the Fermentation group within the Biotechnology department at ADM Research, which includes a team of approximately 25 scientists and technicians. This group optimizes fermentation processes for a range of products, including amino acids, organic acids, hydrocolloids, and enzymes.
Projects can be focused on evaluation of strains developed internally or with technology partners, or on scale down support for ADM's production facilities with existing processes and technical assistance in troubleshooting. While supporting several projects as a resource manager, this position is expected to champion new fermentation technologies and promote continuous improvement of operational procedures, experimental design, data handling, and knowledge management. This manager will also play a key role for Research by collaborating with colleagues in production-scale facilities.
Lead all aspects of resource management for multiple concurrent process development projects at 7.5L to 1000L scales.
Mentor lead scientists as direct reports and manage the career development of team members.
Lead continuous improvement efforts in safety and operational excellence, and integration of new analytical technologies and automation into fermentation process development.
Provide technical guidance and insights into commercial development of processes for a range of fermentation organisms, including bacteria, yeast, and filamentous fungi.
Ph.D. degree or equivalent relevant experience in microbial physiology, fermentation science, molecular microbiology, or related field.
8 to 20 years of experience in running experimental scale fermentation systems of >5L, ideally with deep experience in fermentations run at 5-1000L scales and transfer of multiple processes to production scale.
Proven track record of leading and mentoring people, and of managing resources in a matrixed organization, with experience in leading groups of 10+ individuals.
Experience with being responsible for sourcing and installation of capital equipment.
Demonstrated ability to deliver value to the business through successful completion of process development projects.
