Process Controls Specialist- Decatur East Plant
Decatur, IL.
This is a full time, exempt position

Specialist to maintain process controls for the long term operation of the plant. Develop information systems to organize and share data with users in a process control environment. Strong emphasis on computer software and hardware skills.

This role will be part of a team that is responsible for all aspects of process control programming. The Process Controls Specialist will provide programming support for software applications that cover a wide range of control system development and operational needs, including database applications, web applications, multi-platform development environments, software tools with Graphical User Interfaces, and high performance applications. They will be expected to Design, document, implement, and support new applications per the requirements of engineers, and other ADM staff, to contribute to the advancement of control system tools and techniques for current and future processes.


  • Engineering/Technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or 3-5 years automation experience.
  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements.
  • Capable of safely working with and around voltages of 120VAC, understanding of analog and digital signals related to process controls.
  • Perform as a team member while supporting the planned, preventative, and/or predictive maintenance activities that support the electrical and process control systems of the plant. Communicate job status and support requirements with co-workers and management and effective use of time while completing the assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of various PC operating systems, and the ability to develop & troubleshoot software and hardware to communicate with Process Control Systems from the field and operator interfaces. Develop Process Control Systems that have personal and process safety as part of the overall control strategy, and the ability to migrate existing legacy applications and I/O to current PLC platforms. Programming and application experience with Wonderware, RSlogix 5, 500 & 5000 and experience with Rockwell PlantPAx distributed control system.
  • Ability to read and understand control schematic diagrams and flowcharts including PFDs and P&IDs.
  • The ability to develop and follow written standards and support process applications based upon those standards. The ideal candidate would have experience with writing and developing standards/control narratives for process control systems or applications.
  • Experience in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Java, VB, VBA, VB.NET, C, and C # is a plus.
  • The candidate must be capable of working in extreme temperatures. Must have the ability to climb stairs, lift and move a minimum of 40 pounds, and sit and stand for long periods of time. Should be able to work in confined spaces and heights.
  • Available for on-call rotation for off-hours, holiday and weekend coverage.
