Plant Superintendent- Kalamazoo, MI
This is an exempt level position.

Job Summary:
Are you ready for a highly visible role that both highlights and further develops your leadership, team development, problem solving and technical skills? The Plant Superintendent position at our Kalamazoo, MI flavor plant might be just the job for you! This position will lead manufacturing operations at our facility that produces oil based flavors (specializing in mint) through the processes of compounding, blending, distillation and other specialty processes. We make products for a variety of customers, including oral care, confectionary, beverage, baking and other global markets.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Effectively lead the manufacture of flavor products to meet customer demands through successful day to day operation of the 2 shift manufacturing plant in the areas of safety, quality, production, delivery and continuous improvement
  • Ensuring the plant is appropriately staffed is critical to the success of this role; responsibilities will include figuring out appropriate staffing levels, conducting interviews, hiring, training and development of the manufacturing team
  • Supervise the performance of shift leads and hourly employees, which includes owning the performance review process
  • Coordinate production policies and procedures to ensure all safety, environmental, good manufacturing practices and business wide requirements are satisfactorily met
  • Lead, participate and/or support ongoing safety, environmental, food safety and ISO initiatives as assigned, including active participation on teams
  • Implement and maintain standard work instructions to consistently achieve high levels of performance; handle operator qualification to ensure manufacturing needs are met and corporate requirements are satisfied
  • Direct continuous improvement activity across manufacturing and engage team members in continuous improvement projects
  • Act as emergency site coordinator as well as member of the site crisis management team
  • Work in collaboration with the Plant Manager and act as the back up in their absence
Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of experience
  • Five years' production and supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated strong commitment and leadership in plant safety and environmental programs
  • Demonstrated ability to run a food processing facility employing GMP, ISO and FSSC/HACCP
  • Strong leadership, management, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Technical competence in manufacturing work flows, basic manufacturing equipment and process control systems; in addition, knowledge of distillation processes is strongly desired
