Position Summary:

The Elevator Superintendent leads wheat elevator operations at a 10,600 cwt/day wheat flour mill, overseeing wheat unloading, blending, storage, and transferring to the Mill. This role is responsible for driving safe, efficient, and high-quality operations while developing staff, improving processes, and supporting operational excellence. The Elevator Superintendent reports to the Plant Manager and has approximately 4 direct reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily wheat elevator operations, including unloading, blending, storage, rail movement, scheduling, and transferring to the flour mill.
  • Lead and support the operations team in achieving safety, production, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements while modeling a strong culture with consistent application of policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Partner with Commercial, Milling, and other plant teams to support production needs, maximize efficiency, and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Lead, train, coach, and develop operational staff while reinforcing expectations for safety, quality, sanitation, productivity, and accountability.
  • Develop, implement, and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Equipment Specific Lockout Procedures (ESLPs), operational programs, and best practices.
  • Provide technical support for Elevator processes and equipment, troubleshooting issues, and resolving operational problems.
  • Lead and support operational excellence initiatives, process improvements, and capital or plant improvement projects on time and within budget.
  • Maintain required records and documentation related to operations, safety, environmental compliance, food safety, sanitation, quality, audits, and employees.
  • Manage operator schedules and timecards to ensure adequate staffing for plant operations and support timely payroll processing.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions related to safety, environmental, operations, and personnel.
  • Maintain strong sanitation, housekeeping, food safety, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards throughout the Elevator's operation.


Requirements:
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to lead and develop operations employees
  • Comprehensive understanding of grain elevator operations.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, environmental/quality compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED, required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/related field or 5+ years of equivalent work experience, required.
  • 2-3 years experience in grain elevator or similar manufacturing operations, required.
  • Previous experience in supervisory role, preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without Visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to understand & effectively communication in English (verbal & written).
  • Strong fundamental skills (math, reading, writing, & verbal communication).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to move about on a work site by ascending/descending stairs, extensive walking, climbing steps or ladders, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently
  • Ability to operate equipment or machinery that may be located at different heights with open view grating from multiple elevations or in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds overhead
  • Ability to traverse two (2) miles or more during the course of a workday
  • Ambient conditions - Work area is both non-air-conditioned production environment and office/desk based. Working in in extreme heat and cold in all seasonal elements, both indoors and outside on a regular basis.
  • Atmosphere: May come in contact with dust, wheat, chemicals, or odor
  • Must be able to work around vibrating equipment and noise levels that may reach or exceed 85 decibels and will require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
  • Employees are required to wear all company provided Personal Protective Equipment (i.e., hard-hats, safety glasses, earplugs, uniforms, and steel-toed boots) in addition to job specific PPE requirements (i.e., fall protection equipment and respirators)
