Carbon Capture and Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Well Technician - Decatur, IL

Position Summary

The CCUS Well Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) injection wells, associated pipelines, and surface facilities. This role supports well drilling, completion, injection, monitoring, and workover activities while ensuring the integrity of well systems and related infrastructure. The technician serves as a field-based resource for operations, maintenance, contractor oversight, regulatory compliance, and performance monitoring of CCUS assets.

Key Responsibilities

Well and Field Operations
  • Monitor and operate CCUS injection wells, pipelines, and associated surface equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Conduct routine well inspections, surveillance activities, and operational assessments.
  • Support well drilling, completion, workover, and intervention operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee the installation, startup, and commissioning of well and surface facilities.
  • Monitor injection rates, pressures, temperatures, and other operational parameters.
  • Supervise contractors and internal personnel performing field activities on pipeline and well infrastructure.
  • Respond to operational upsets and support troubleshooting efforts to maintain asset integrity and reliability.
  • Ability to operate telehandler, fork lift, and scissor lift
Equipment Maintenance and Reliability
  • Diagnose, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and mechanical systems associated with CCUS operations.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on valves, pipeline, and related surface facilities.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with operations, engineering, and contractor teams.
  • Support equipment performance evaluations and identify opportunities for reliability improvements.
  • Manage Critical Safety Device and Pressure relief device maintains program
  • Plan, coordinate, and support pipeline pigging operations
Compliance, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • Ensure adherence to CCUS monitoring, reporting, and verification requirements.
  • Support development and execution of well integrity management plans in accordance with EPA Class VI and company requirements.
  • Conduct 5-Why Analysis for permit deviations when required.
  • Issue safe work, confined space, hot work, and related EHS required permits
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate operational records for drilling, completion, injection, workover, and maintenance activities.
  • Generate and update work orders, inspections, and maintenance records within Maximo.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Track equipment performance, downtime, maintenance history, and regulatory documentation.
  • Utilize data management systems to monitor and analyze well and facility performance.
Qualifications

Required Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • IADC Workover Supervisory Level Well Control Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 24 months of employment.
Preferred Education
  • Associate degree or two years of post-secondary training in Applied Science, Petroleum Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.
Required Experience
  • 4 plus years of experience in oil and gas operations, CCUS operations, pipeline operations, industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, or a related field environment.
  • Experience working with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or process equipment.
  • Experience coordinating field activities and working with industrial labor force

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using Maximo, Coupa, Gemini and PI System preferred.
  • Working knowledge of well operations, pressure systems, maintenance practices, and industrial safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures, and equipment manuals.
  • Forklift operator safety training for lift Classes 1-7 or ability to obtain certification within 12 months
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in outdoor field environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to work around heavy equipment, rotating machinery, and pressurized systems.
  • May require occasional on-call support, overtime, and travel.
  • Ability to safely perform duties in industrial environments.
