Reporting to the Director, Energy, the Energy Manager is responsible for ensuring reliable and economical delivery of natural gas, electricity and other energy commodities to assigned US consuming facilities.  The responsibility is comprehensive (similar to running a key part of a company), and includes market analysis, planning, contracting (primarily buying, but selling also, with all of the contract and credit complexities that implies) for gas, transportation, storage, and electricity, scheduling, balancing, optimization, cost modeling, bill reconciliation and regulatory advocacy.
 
What you will do:
  • Provide the company with an understanding of gas transportation fundamentals through data gathering, market analysis and industry participation
  • Anticipate trends in gas transportation
  • Maintain specific knowledge of our supply and transportation agreements as well as the tariff provisions of the pipelines able to serve company facilities and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure physical gas business practices comply with federal and state regulations
  • Be on-call after normal business hours, inclined to respond to issues with a sense of urgency, and have a strong team orientation
  • Execute approved strategies and quantify results
  • Understand the electric needs and opportunities of the plant sites in your geographic area of responsibilities
  • Make decisions concerning gas routing and nomination to minimize cost
  • Schedule gas receipts and deliveries through pipeline nominations and control
  • Balance and track all supply packages from wellhead to burner tip
  • Serve as a primary daily contact for gas suppliers and pipelines
  • Serve as the primary contact for facilities under your responsibility in regard to daily gas requirements (including after-hour emergencies)
  • Accurately enter transactions into the Gas System and Portfolio as need be
  • Routinely share responsibilities with other team members in a back-up role
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience, with at least 2 years in the natural gas industry
  • Experience in engineering or accounting is considered an asset
  • Proven experience structuring energy transactions
  • Supplier development / monitoring experience
  • Risk management experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Superior ability to influence and build relationships (both internally and externally)
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; demonstrated data analysis capability
  • Superior excel skills
  • Excellent problem solving, strategic thinking and planning skills
  • Cross functional team management and facilitation skills
  • Ability to maintain perspective and confidence in face of difficult contract negotiations, tight deadlines and internal client (i.e., fertilizer operations) expectations
  • Superior organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Possess an owner's mentality
