Summary/Objective
This position is the primary team member responsible for ensuring reliable and economical delivery of natural gas to the US consuming facilities and maintaining the company’s natural gas systems.  This position will also maintain daily and monthly gas systems, generate and reconcile natural gas invoices, and generate quarterly and annual reports for company use and federal filings. 
 
What you will do:
 
Scheduling
  • Daily nomination and balancing
  • Decision making concerning gas routing and nomination to minimize cost
  • Resolves cuts and emergencies on a 24/7 basis
  • Reconciles monthly invoices by researching and resolving counter-party invoices against PCS systems and contracts
  • Routinely shares responsibilities with the Manager, Natural Gas (MNG) for scheduling and gas system maintenance
  • Participates in gas strategy discussions and bid-week tactical meetings
  • Updates and evaluates plant usage (forecasts and actual)
  • Monitors pipelines for issues relevant to operations
  • Participates in department strategy discussions and bid-week tactical meetings, advises on gas balances, usage and pipeline issues
  • Translates monthly purchases and usage into a daily execution plan
  • Makes decisions concerning gas routing and nomination to improve reliability and lower cost
  • Schedules gas receipts and deliveries through pipeline nominations and control through five nomination cycles per day. (Multiple plants served by one or more pipelines with one or more contracts moving multiple packages of supplies from various suppliers make this a complex task)
  • Serve as the primary daily contact for gas suppliers and pipelines (including after-hour emergencies).  Being on top of our business supports the company’s reputation as a knowledgeable and desirable business partner and ultimately results in lower gas costs
  • Communicates rate and fuel changes to the DNG, MNGBD and MNG so that they will understand changing economics and forward systems will contain correct assumptions for forecast and purchasing plan
  • Because the nature of gas scheduling is 24/7/366, these responsibilities are backed up by the MNG approximately 40% of the time, but this position has primary accountability
  • Recognizes opportunities to lower gas cost at the Company’s facilities through arbitraging gas, transport and/or storage (without undue risk or erosion of reputation)
  • System Maintenance
  • Maintains the Gas System and Canadian Gas Model for actual flows and daily trades, and produces monthly invoices
  • Runs Portfolio Model daily and models transportation deals in the portfolio
  • Surveys each operating site for monthly and long term forecasts of gas usage and updates systems
  • Runs the Forecast Model with input assumptions from the DNG and distributes results as directed
  • Prepares quarter end reports and reconciles changes.
  • Prepares annual FERC form 552 for SDIR approval and submission to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Market Research
  • Maintains key databases on historic and fore-casted gas fundamentals as well as industry price forecasts.
  • Conducts ad hoc research on energy related topics
  • What you will bring:
    • Two years of experience in the natural gas industry, possess and understanding of natural gas transactions and have a particulate aptitude for translating between words and mathematical formulae.
    • The incumbent should have high integrity.  He/she should also be detail oriented, able to accurately update systems, recognize significant changes in numbers, and be assertive about bringing significant changes to the attention of traders and operations.
