The successful candidate will participate in the safe and efficient operation of an anaerobic digestion system, including a biogas collection system. You will leverage your curiosity and ambition to ensure optimal performance, drive continuous improvement, and help make doing business with McCain easy for our customers. Your teamwork and sense of ownership will be critical as you collect and analyze data, handle sludge and biogas production, and support the reliability of our large potato processing operation.
What you’ll be doing.
Operate and maintain all Waste Water Treatment equipment, including the Covered Anaerobic Lagoon (CAL), waste collection systems, rotary screens, clarifier, aeration basin, biogas collection and distribution systems, and ancillary equipment.
Collect waste water samples from various locations and analyze them using lab equipment, following McCain testing procedures.
Rationalize test results and implement procedural adjustment strategies for efficient operation.
Perform daily inspection of equipment and buildings, recording findings on specified check sheets to ensure transparency and accountability.
Manage solids inventory of hoppers, tanks, and sludge storage areas under the guidance of the Waste Water Treatment Lead.
Conduct routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.
Identify potential process upsets and promptly notify the Waste Water Treatment Lead, supporting a culture of open communication and rapid problem-solving.
Learn and operate the biogas generation system, including monitoring and testing biogas quality, to bring out the best in our processes.
Monitor final effluent quality and distribution to the irrigation holding pond, ensuring compliance and customer satisfaction.
Comply with all state regulations, including the State of Washington Waste Water Permit, and uphold McCain’s compliance requirements and recordkeeping standards.
Adhere to strict safety policies while operating biological waste water treatment systems and biogas production, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all team members.
Calibrate laboratory instruments and perform basic preventative maintenance activities, including lubrication, inspection, cleaning, and repair or replacement of equipment such as pumps, blowers, augers, bearings, and gearboxes.
Troubleshoot biological treatment system upsets, minimizing disruptions and contributing to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Communicate effectively with the Production Team to provide input and corrections, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
What you’ll need to be successful.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Experience related to the biological waste water treatment process is preferred.
Ability to complete a training program for anaerobic digestion and biogas generation.
Must have or be able to attain the following certifications within the first 60 days of hire:
McCain Forklift Certification
McCain Scissor Lift Certification
McCain Boom Lift (Genie) Certification
McCain Confined Space Certification
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to accurately record data on forms, surveys, and computer text entries, and to prepare clear messages or simple documents.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to express ideas, explain concepts, and actively participate in discussions.
Basic verbal and written understanding of the English language.
Demonstrates ambition, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and grow within a diverse and inclusive environment.

Compensation Package: $24.85-$37.18 USD hourly + bonus eligibility
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
Shift Differential Pay: $1.50 USD hourly for graveyard
