About the role.

This is a highly critical role that will interface closely with both regional and site-level contacts to identify and execute electrical, automation, and instrumentation technology optimization within North America. The successful candidate will also work with global engineering partners to champion McCain’s electrical, automation and instrumentation technology roadmap and drive the rollout of resulting innovation programs within the region.Developing and maintaining a strategy for addressing electrical and instrumentation obsolescence in our facilities will also be a critical area of focus. This role will have the opportunity to interface and influence across cross-functional teams and various stakeholders. Looking for an energetic, passionate leader who can keep McCain at the cutting edge of electrical and instrumentation technology. This job has no direct reports. This role interacts with others using project management and influence and supervises third party and company resources on a functional basis.

 

What you’ll be doing.

  • Proactively develop and execute independently and through others by building and leveraging relationships across regional and site level teams.
  • Support both engineering and plant maintenance in the development and execution of electrical and instrumentation obsolescence strategies.
  • Drive stakeholder adherence to the global electrical, automation and instrumentation engineering standards.
  • Manage capital projects to meet deadlines and budgets utilizing solid project management principles. Identify and effectively utilize project resources.
  • Specification and sizing of control devices and instruments.
  • Review new technology for applicability and benefits to current manufacturing and controls methods.
  • Development of performance specifications for equipment vendors, equipment selection and bid tabulations.
  • Assist in planning of electrical and controls portion of capital projects in terms of scope development, cost development and management, and scheduling. Includes directing activities to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements.
  • Work with finance, production, and safety to develop justifications for capital projects and prepare the Requests for Capital Expenditures in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Preparation of electrical installation tender documents.
  • Perform supplier site visits to ensure compatibility of equipment designs with current plant configurations.
  • Produce site visit reports, contractor job meeting minutes, project material listings, purchase orders, installation schedules and other documentation as needed.
  • Manage release of design input to suppliers (integrators, contractors, vendors, etc.).
  • Manage the resolution of technical issues identified by suppliers.
  • Acquire and negotiate contractor bids.
  • Assist in design of instrumentation systems for plant expansions, including the development of field and control room instrumentation specifications.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience directly related to food manufacturing processing controls.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley RSLogix, ControlLogix, FactoryTalk View SE, and PlantPAx.
  • Experienced in the development of plant system documents (i.e. logic diagrams, elementary wiring diagrams, I/O lists, etc.).
  • Experience reading, drafting, and marking up P&IDs.
  • Familiar with industrial control networks.
  • Familiar with plant electrical power distribution systems, both single and 3 phase.
  • Industrial motor control experience, VFDs, soft starters, FVNR, FVR, etc.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.

 

Travel: Approximately 50%, within Canada and the U.S.

 

About the team.

The successful candidate will be one of North America Engineering’s Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation subject matter experts supporting the manufacturing facilities in the region. They will own E&I obsolescence tracking, provide consultation and guidance to other project managers, and work with their peers to support the deployment of Global and Regional initiatives and programs.

Compensation Package: $102,700.00 - $137,000.00 CAD annually + bonus eligibility

 

The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
