The Jefferson County Agri-Business Club is dedicated to fostering the next generation of agricultural professionals by offering scholarships to local students pursuing agricultural education.
These scholarships are available to high school seniors and current college students who are focused on a career in agriculture, whether at two-year, four-year, or technical schools.
Students interested in applying can download the application from the club’s official website.
The application process is comprehensive, requiring details about the student’s activities, leadership roles, work experience, academic achievements, and their vision for agriculture, supplemented by essays and a letter of recommendation.
The application deadline is set for February 1st each year.
Funding for these scholarships is sourced from a variety of community-driven activities. Notably, Jones Dairy Farm contributed all ticket sales from their 2022 centennial celebration to the scholarship fund.
Additionally, memorial donations in honor of Will Larson, a revered local agricultural educator, have established a scholarship specifically for students aspiring to teach agriculture.
The scholarship recipients are chosen by a committee that reviews and scores applications.
Final approval is given during the club’s February meeting, and the scholarships are formally awarded at an April meeting, which includes a catered dinner at Fairview Sports Bar & Grill in Jefferson.
The club sustains its scholarship fund through annual events such as a food stand at the Jefferson County Fair and a holiday cheese sale.
