Our client is a leading owner and operator of large-scale USDA-certified organic and regenerative practice farms, are currently seeking an Assistant Farm Manager for their northern Illinois location.

Position Summary: The Assistant Farm Manager will be pivotal in supporting the daily operations and management of the farm. This role involves close collaboration with the Farm Manager to oversee daily activities, implement crop protection strategies, and ensure the efficient functioning of the farm.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Field Activities:

  • Safely and effectively operate various farm equipment used in organic crop production, including but not limited to:
    • Large tractors
    • Combines
    • Tillage machinery
    • Planting equipment
    • Cultivation equipment
  • Identify machinery issues during operations, make necessary adjustments, and seek supervisor support when needed.
  • Accurately utilize GPS/precision agriculture technology.
  • Safely transport large equipment from storage to fields and occasionally on public roads.
  • Understand and adhere to basic grain bin safety protocols.

 

Support to Farm Manager:

  • Assist in planning and executing field activities.
  • Apply fertility treatments in a timely manner and in appropriate quantities.
  • Implement organic methods for weed and pest control.
  • Manage custom operators and/or contractors effectively.
  • Comprehend the principles of grain storage and the distinctions between organic and conventional storage practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in farm management or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of organic crop production and farm equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
  • Familiarity with GPS/precision agriculture technology.
  • Commitment to safety and best practices in farming.
