Job Title:        Food Safety Coordinator                                          Department:   QA                                                  

Reports To:    Director of Food Safety                                             Location:  Great Falls, MT


This position is responsible for the coordination of all food safety & quality control programs designed to ensure the production of safe, high quality products consistent with CGI standards through providing leadership and direction. The position requires an experienced specialist with working knowledge of food safety certifications, regulatory requirements and related management systems. The candidate should be an independent, motivated self-starter who values working in a team setting.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Strong focus and understanding of food safety
  • Knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, risk assessments and root cause analysis required
  • Maintenance of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manual and document control
  • Management of all food safety programs
  • Management of Quality Systems and legality
  • Organization of product, environmental, air and water testing
  • Provide training for HACCP, GMP’s, Food Safety, and the SQF code
  • Prepare raw material specifications and maintain the Raw Material Spec Book working with merchants and the sales team
  • Provide guidance and support and/or accompanying FDA inspectors and for 3rd party auditors auditing the facility and preparation of necessary documents for review and any written response
  • Maintenance, management of the HACCP plans, Hazard Analysis, Flow Charts, and other required information, and provide expertise and guidance as the team leader
  • Address and resolve customer complaints effectively
  • Conduct internal audits of procedures used in all areas of the plant and issuing a completed report with corrective actions to relevant managers and supervisors
  • Coordinate 3rd party audits, training, required testing and calibrations
  • Keep informational paperwork current including all certificates, supplier letters, supplier approvals, continuing guarantee, supplier lot code verification and supplier food defense compliance letters and suppliers questionnaires
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers
  • Some travel involved (less than 10%)


Education and /or Experience:

  • B.S. in Food Science, Biology or comparable field of study
  • PCQI, HACCP & SQF Certification
  • Working knowledge of computers and software as utilized in the food safety environment
  • Experience in implementation and auditing a plus
  • 3+ years experience in management / quality management preferred
