The responsibility of the Global Food Service Innovation Leader is to work with commercial and technology teams to identify and drive new product and service opportunities for the key category customers outside of McDonald's and its direct suppliers. Provides technical leadership to the regional teams to support customer insight gathering and convert learning into global business opportunities. Supports the commercial team in the development of the product line architecture aligned with the customer strategic plans. Brings insights from the global customers to the category R&D team to develop projects for the broader global needs. Looks at technology advances in food oils and frying and to adjacent areas to bring differentiated opportunities for the category. Influencer of rapid implementation of new technology and products into the regions. Acts as the liaison between the regional business technology partners and the global category R&D team to ensure value creation in projects with focus and time driven deliverables. Gets work done through others in projects and/or working teams. Strong people skills to influence adjacent teams. Principal Accountabilities
25% Business Partner and Value Creation
Promotes business partnership in global regions through deep customer understanding, converts learnings to the development of a commercially relevant product line portfolio.
Directly engages customers alone or with sales team support to explore and promote alternatives to current products and services
Ensures compliance of IP law and policies in all countries they work. Promotes active filing to protect innovations supporting the product line and gain priority dates.
Supports the regional business teams by driving customer focus with actively managed technical plans.
Drives change in portfolio direction and product offering in key regions by making decisive decision on technical direction and investment.
25% Technology Leadership and Strategy
Develops projects from customer insights and market alignment with commercial teams, makes recommendations to the category leadership for project support.
Actively pursues emerging technology and explores new trends to drive regional product advantages.
Ensures rapid technology and information transfer between regions and the core category R&D team; works across R&D functions to facilitate key information transfer and accelerate new product introduction.
Represents category in key university collaborations and industry associations in selected regions to drives discovery outcomes that support the long-term category strategy.
Acts as a subject matter expert in core frying and oil technology to support innovation and complex problem solving for Cargill
Proficient in adjacent technical areas to understand and manage development aspects of the product system (i.e. coating, equipment, freezing and storage, filtration, sensory).
25% Technical Strategy
Contributes to defining the individual regional R&D strategy (EU, Middle East, SA, Asia, China) for the category in partnership with Sales, Marketing, and Technical Service.
Works with category leadership in deployment of the global strategy into the regions technology plans to keep alignment and priorities focused.
Uses a global view point to provide deep technical insights to direct the product and process innovation in the regions using the Ten Types of Innovation planning.
As a subject matter expert brings broad experience in category technology to create differentiated technical approach in projects and readily involves other to bring in new insights and experiences.
Advocate for safety in our technical strategy by training topics, field observations, behavior, and insights to team.
25% Portfolio Building
Provides strategic leadership in the development of the category innovation portfolio to ensure outcomes are achieved and key problems are solved
Brings new technology and ideas into building project concepts and designs projects that create distinctive offerings that grow and sustain business.
Connects multiple disciplines and technical experts to bring new project and technical capabilities to the portfolio.
Manages technical complexity in major projects and ensures that the appropriate experts and resources are assigned to the project. Will jump in to address technical challenges.
Skills: Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in food science or related field
10+ years working experience in the development of food ingredients
Customer facing skills to develop products and launch
Food oil chemistry experience to apply to solving performance problems
Generates project ideas and manages team completion
Technical Team leadership in product development and bringing product to market
People leadership in building teams
Effective communication of results to customer demonstrating value
Experienced in industrial and restaurant frying for product development
Knowledge of oil processing and impact to frying performance
Master's degree in Food Science or related field
5+ years working experience in food oil ingredient development and applications
Demonstrated success in product development and roll-out with customer
Working experience and demonstrated success with Sales and Marketing to create product innovation
Managed complex projects requiring collaboration across functions (R&D, product development, and applications, and technical services) to achieve commercial success
Working directly with customers to develop new ingredients and system improvements in commercial frying
Recognized by the Oils and Fats industry as subject matter expert
Publications in area of responsibility; demonstrated leadership in oil or food professional societies
Successful value creation through technology applications
Leading complex projects in food and ingredient development
Demonstrated problem solving in commercial products and oil processing
Oil processing and blending experience to create produce specification
Deep understanding of commercial frying in customer manufacturing and restaurants
People leadership in developing people and successful team to deliver commercial results
