In this position, the student will be immersed in a 12-week internship experience to contribute to optimizing and improving the workflow for scaled up inoculum production to deliver quality inoculum used for characterizing products in the pipeline across Bayer Crop Science.  The student will collaborate with Plant Health Scientists, complete business critical projects, grow their network and knowledge of the Agricultural Industry at one of the leading companies in Agriculture.

 

The intern will be a member of a team comprised of scientists with backgrounds in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Data Science, Epidemiology, Disease Modeling, Field Pathology, and Engineering. The potential skills developed in this role include large scale microbe production, Agronomy, automation, plant disease phenotyping, plant pathology, assay development, communication and more. The intern will be paired with a primary mentor located at the Bayer site in Chesterfield who will provide coaching & feedback.

 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to: 

  • Complete projects to improve inoculum quality;
  • Complete projects to improve workflow efficiency for producing large scale inoculum;
  • Maintain plants in a controlled environment setting;
  • Maintain a small plant microbe collection;
  • Conduct in vivo and/or in vitro assays;
  • Provide key updates to Plant Health team members;
  • Give a presentation at the end of the internship;
  • Grow knowledge in the Agricultural Industry.

 

 

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a MSc or PhD in Plant Pathology;
  • Background in identifying plant pathogens;
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative to meet goals with minimal supervision;
  • Proven leader and problem-solver;
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and manage time effectively;
  • Willingness and ability to relocate for the 12-week internship, typically in a rural area;
  • Ability to lift 70 lbs.;
  • Ability to adhere to all Bayer safety & compliance requirements.
