Bayer Animal Health Senior Analytical Scientist


The primary responsibilities of this role, Bayer Animal Health Senior AnalyticalScientist are to:

  • Develop and validate analytical methods for finished products and/or associated raw materials for products. Develop methods and perform testing to de-formulate commercial products. Prepare test method development/validation reports, troubleshoot methods, and perform specialized analyses. Analyze products under development in accordance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices and/or Good Laboratory Practice regulations;

  • Serve as a technical leader in analytical for a variety of products, such as oral, topical/transdermal, and parenteral formulations. Mentor less experienced personnel in laboratory practices and theory. As assigned, serve as liaison with external resources (e.g., contract laboratories, universities, etc.).

  • Prepare and manage multiple project budgets and capital budgets

  • Serve as a Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls Sub team project leader for teams consisting of Chemistry, Analytical, Formulation, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Validation, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Production, Research and Development, and Supply Chain to drive projects;

  • Understand project timelines and can identify/influence critical path and de-risk activities. Can communicate interdependencies of activities within and outside Pharmaceutical Development

  • Support Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls regulatory submissions during filing and for any necessary product maintenance;

  • Be a subject matter expert in all laboratory practices and for Current Good Manufacturing Practice compliance;

  • Lead complex investigations in a Current Good Manufacturing Practices compliant environment, identify root cause, and determine Corrective Action Planning Assignments.


Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences or related scientific field and a minimum of five years of pharmaceutical industry experience; Masters Degree and minimum of seven years of pharmaceutical industry experience; or a Bachelors Degree and minimum 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience;

  • Emphasis on leadership skills, ability to lead technical sub teams, and to understand big picture of product development;

  • Experience in the analytical method development (especially dissolution), optimization/robustness and validation (per VICH guidelines), and regulatory submissions is required;

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential. Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of software products is required;

  • Should have in-depth understanding of the Federal Drug Administration guidelines and regulation and working with Current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, and government audits.

  • The incumbent must have a demonstrated understanding of product development within Analytical/Formulation and beyond with ability to lead/influence global technical sub teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in animal health pharmaceutical industry is a plus;

  • Experience with Empower;

  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices audit preparedness and interacting with auditors.
