YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Bayer Crop Science is the leader in shaping the future of agriculture.  At Bayer the R&D function brings innovative solutions to the grower, and this requires rigorous testing and fundamental understanding of new products and solution concepts.  In the Application Technology group, we develop the fundamental understanding and testing protocols to accelerate the product and solutions pipeline.

 

In this role, you will be part of a team within Bayer Crop Science R&D focusing on designing new data pipelines and methodologies to advance our crop protection application fundamentals.  Opportunities for your own development include introduction to/advanced use of data science tools, hands-on experimentation, networking with a global team of Bayer colleagues, and gaining exposure specifically to Bayer R&D.

 

The co-op will work closely with a project advisor.  Key tasks for this co-op role include:

  • Build a network within Application Technology and Field Solutions to accomplish project objectives;
  • Establish a project plan and key milestones;
  • Develop image processing and data analysis pipeline;
  • Collaboratively design and execute field experiments;
  • Independent laboratory experimentation;
  • Organize, document, and report research outcomes in a timely manner;
  • Communicate project results to leadership team and stakeholder group at end of co-op.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline (Data Science, Computer Science, Precision Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Weed Science or related);
  • Current enrollment at an accredited university located in the U.S.;
  • Familiarity with image analysis;
  • Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g. Python, R);
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams;
  • Proficiency with statistical principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Masters or PhD candidate in a relevant discipline (Data Science, Computer Science, Precision Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Weed Science or related);
  • Background in Computer Vision, Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Statistics, and related;
  • Experience building data analysis pipelines;
  • Familiarity with basic chemistry, biology, and/or agronomy principles.
