Regulatory Director - Erlanger, KY
ADM Nutrition This is a full time, exempt position
The Regulatory Director provides regulatory support, guidance and expertise directly and via trained staff to ensure customer satisfaction and success of the overall business growth strategy. The position requires handling compliance to government regulations, including international country reviews, as well as providing training to, and oversight of, a team of ADM-WFSI regulatory specialists.
Key skills & competencies:
Strong proficiency in US FDA Food regulations (including flavorings and additives) and other countries' food regulations. Knowledge of US TTB rules, IFRA (oral care) and AAFCO (animal feed) guidelines is also helpful.
Ability to prepare end food- and dietary-supplement product labels, including nutrition and supplement facts panels, respectively, is critical for this role (US & Canada labels - essential skill; other countries - desirable).
Broad technical understanding of other regulatory data and ability to conduct detailed research & interpretation of rules and guidance applicable to the Company's product portfolio and ingredients used therein.
Solid interpersonal skills that can readily translate regulatory topics to non-regulatory audiences (Sales, R&D).
Ability to focus priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines without supervision
Attention to detail to minimize internal and external complaints.
Actively participate and chip in to team-building efforts in the department, and manage and support individuals on the regulatory team to help achieve department performance targets and metrics.
Description of work performed:
Leads & coordinates regulatory programs as required by the business.
Leads and engages in technical regulatory assessments of the company's WFSI products (including functional ingredients) for the intended end industry (e.g. food, beverage, dietary supplements, etc.), and prepares Regulatory documents to support WILD customer base. [This includes composition compliance checks, allergen assessments, GMO status reviews, finished product label & claims guidance, nutritional facts panels, dietary supplement reviews, and other Regulatory assessments as needed to support WFSI customers and internal ADM technical personnel.]
Performs root-cause analysis for any customer complaints related to Regulatory data.
Provides input and insights to the regulatory database maintenance team to support internal development and production.
Participates in customer communications representing ADM-WFSI and providing Regulatory expertise where needed (e.g. to support clients' TMA/NHP registrations).
Policy - assists in managing, reviewing and revising Regulatory ISO work instructions; reviewing and applying Regulatory or client policies & practices.
Provides ongoing education and training to departmental employees, as well as internal customers (R&D and Sales).
Identifies and disseminates meaningful industry Regulatory information to applicable departments within WILD.
Communicates with external governing agencies and attend pertinent trade association events, as required.
Performs and/or leads other duties and special assignments as required.
Education & Experience:
BS degree in Food Science, Chemistry or other related science field; and/or equivalent qualifications through Associates degree and relevant job experience.
Minimum 7 years' technical regulatory experience, preferably in the area of compliance for the food/beverage/flavor or related industries.
Minimum 2 years' management skills with confirmed interpersonal skills, including leadership in an environment that demonstrates team-building, and provision of relevant and timely staff education and training.
Planning/organizing: confirmed project management experience is desirable; ability to focus on priorities and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines without supervision is a requirement.
Strong, independent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills: proficient in MS Office packages; adept in learning other software including internal programs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven attention to detail.
