Position Overview


 


The Merchandiser Assistant Manager has primary responsibility to ensure the MA team is performing tasks effectively within the Trade Unit, forecasting workflow needs/resources, and ensuring business reports are accurate.  The Merchandiser Assistant Manager will manage a team of MA 1 and/or MA II which will include team meetings, employee reviews, annual achievement goals/objections, recruiting and performance management.  The MA Manager will also be expected to work in close partnership with the Finance team, Business Unit team and other MA Managers in tracking and highlighting scorecard and KPIs/metrics, problem-solving, projects, aiding in continuous business improvement,  workflow improvements, recruiting, and providing input on employee performance and annual goals.  The MA Manager will act as a subject matter expert to coach and train MA team members on proper control procedures including accounts payable, accounts receivable, control report review and all company policies and procedures surrounding the Trade Unit.  The MA Manager is required to report all perceived control policy or procedure concerns to Finance.


 


Job Functions: 



  • Assist in Identifying programs for training gaps and development needs to ensure transactions are processed timely and accurately.

  • Ensure MA team is processing work tasks and transaction types with high degree of consistency.

  • Assist the Division in Project design and testing.

  • By understanding the basic accounting processes of the business, assist the Finance group in establishing, maintaining, and monitoring controls and addressing problems as uncovered.  Give guidance to the MA staff

  • Help to establish standardized processes within the Business Unit

  • Review reports and other system outputs to identify issues, weaknesses, and transactional error.

  • Provide metrics to the group through scorecards monitoring identified KPI’s.

  • Ensure MA’s within the Trade Unit have been cross trained and can fill in for each other and that each team member has been taught skills to move to the next level if needed.

  • Provide oversight and direction of workflow management and delegation to promote efficient and consistent processing to effectively assign tasks to ensure accurate and timely completion of documents.

  • Help identify training needs and develop content, team meetings, and input on staffing needs.

  • Ensure all required weekly MA duties are being performed with efficiency. Look for solutions to improve efficiency and work with the trade unit manager(s) to ensure all tasks are being completed in expected amount of time. 

  • Ensure the MA team is meeting role expectations as provided by the trade unit manager(s) and troubleshooting when errors occur.

  • Act as a subject matter expert and back up for new contract input, sales, and delivery transactions in the Trade Unit.

  • Measure the effectiveness of the MA team by assessing results and KPI’s and using these results to manage the team performance.

  • Proactively ensure customer experience with Scoular accounting meets or exceeds expectations.

  • Respond to escalated customer issues from MAs and Merchandisers and handle escalated issues, complex issues that are of high dollar value, involve multiple business units or are time sensitive.

  • Seek out new ways to improve customer experience, and coach MA’s to enhance customer service skills.

  • Coach and train MA team to enhance customer service skills.

  • Partner with the Trade Unit managers and with Finance to align on strategy and needs

  • Understand the revenue generation process of the business unit and contribute ideas on how to increase administrative efficiencies, reduce risk and avoid duplication of processes.

  • Share recommendations with business unit merchandisers and senior management upon request.


Minimum 



  • 3+ years of related experience. Knowledge of buying/selling of commodities is a plus.

  • Understanding of accounting concepts

  • Customer service orientation

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks

  • Ability to solve complex problems in a timely manner

  • Effective, clear, concise communication skills

  • Strong math and analytical skills

  • Advanced PC expertise, including the MS Office Suite applications; this will include familiarity with standard databases, system maintenance and operation

  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently as needed

  • Ability to effectively lead people to achieve business goals


Preferred



  • Bachelor’s degree in business related area

  • 3+ years supervising experience preferred
