Job Description:

The Facility Manager is responsible for managing and operating a facility or multiple asset-based locations, which includes the planning and day to day execution of the merchandising and operational strategies for the trade unit.  This position will oversee and be accountable for execution of all processes, including but not limited to, operational activities across multiple teams, training and development of team members, transportation logistics, blending and mixing of all products, maintaining the identity preservation of products, compliance of safety processes/procedures, vendor and customer relations, and enhance Scoular’s ability to operate and grow our business. The Facility Manager position is responsible for the growth and development of merchants and operations teams to perform at a high level.



  • Accountable for planning and execution of operational and merchandising strategies for the facility(s) and trade unit.

  • Responsible for expense management for the assigned business.

  • Partner with Area Group Manager or Trade Unit Manager to provide insight on monthly P&L management and development of quarterly forecasts and merchandising plans for the managed locations.

  • Provide execution leadership to functional team. Understand team's capacity and trade/execute within that.

  • Executing origination/merchandising activity in partnership with Trade Unit team.

  • Develop and fulfill annual production and operating expense budget focused on providing Scoular with improving financial performance.?

  • Partner with Regional or Area Facility manager to provide input on strategic plans to maintain facility in industry-competitive performance capability through preventive maintenance programs and capital improvement strategies.?

  • Responsible for all aspects of inventory management, including product segregation, product conditioning, maintaining inventory quality, maximize mix and blend activities, controlling shrink, ensuring accurate weights and grades on inbound and outbound shipments, and achieving contract specification on all shipments.

  • Oversee processes of accurately weighing, sampling, grading, testing, and binning of all in-bound grain. Maintaining samples and identity preserved lot number system throughout the process (contractual or regulatory)

  • Ensure that facilities are clean and well-kept, inside and out, to reflect Company’s high standards.

  • Brings local product expertise and is able to discuss products with customers providing deep market information including end-using industry analysis, customer utilization of capacity, etc.?

  • Support Producer Origination programs.

  • Accountable for providing impeccable service to our customers and proactively maintaining strong relationships to leverage market opportunities.

  • Manage/Coordinate transportation and logistics to ensure all transportation coordination needs for on-time deliveries are met. Ensure all rail and truck processes are in place to meet the locations shipping and delivery needs.

  • Ensure completion of administrative functions which includes all necessary paperwork (Scoular and government required) are completed properly and submitted in a timely manner to meet all requirements necessary for each process.

  • Drive Employee Safety agenda and improvement.

  • Ensure facility, products and equipment are safe, well maintained, of the appropriate quality and all certifications, permits and inspections are current and compliant. Responsible for facility safety programs and training.

  • Ensure all aspects of the physical assets meet government regulations and Scoular policies and procedures are adhered to.

  • Accountable for operational management and team development.

  • Manage multiple teams to include laborers, superintendents, trainees, merchandising assistants, originators and merchants. Partner with Services teams to lead and execute all people management functions of team (recruiting, training, development and workflow management).

  • Engage and inspire teams through inclusive leadership, making Scoular a great place to work.

  • Identify and participate in collaboration opportunities between businesses within the Division and across Divisions.

  • Ensure organizational agility to navigate unprecedented change.


About You



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing or operating a grain elevator, cleaning plant, mill or ag commodity processing facility.

  • Experience in personnel management.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Detailed and process oriented. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet scheduled deadlines.

  • Ability to analyze and independently solve problems.

  • Effective customer service skills and a positive style in business transactions

  • Ability to perform in a high-stress and fast paced environment

  • Knowledge of accounting, financial practices and procedures

  • Knowledge of the agricultural industry’s trading standards and procedures

  • Ability to use commercial travel, as needed. 


Preferred



  • +2 years of Agri-business related experience

  • 4+ years of supervisory experience

  • Understanding of grain markets, hedging and commodity flows

  • Food grade grain or seed experience

  • Grain grading experience
