QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- BS Agronomy, Business, MBA or related fields
- Minimum 5 years of Agronomic experience with large scale commercial crops
- 5+ years of experience in a senior management role within a comparable structure or operation
- Experience with marketing crops
- Experience managing an extended team is preferred/Proven ability to supervise people and manage large farm teams
- Demonstrated expertise in Crop Production
- Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to professionally represent the farm in business and environmental areas
- Demonstrated understanding of operational planning, and financial and human resource management/Experience with business processes, financial reporting and farm health and safety
- Excellent judgement and problem-solving skills
- An entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative working style
- Experience with business processes, financial reporting and farm health and safety

We are looking for a Farm General Manager to manage day-to-day operations on the farm. This individual will have the following responsibilities: • Managing farm personnel, including approving payroll, hiring H2A and other workers, and coordinating tasks with the Operations Manager • Marketing crops and identifying new market opportunities • Overseeing bookkeeping and accounting, working with 3rd party service providers • Preparing financial budgets each year • Preparing reports on operational performance • Communicating results to Management • Executing the existing and future crop plan • Working with agronomists to refine the crop plan • Finding and purchasing crop inputs • All other aspects of general farm management, including property maintenance, purchasing equipment, agreeing insurance policies, liaising with neighbors, etc.

The Farm General Manager will supervise the Operations Manager, who will be responsible for day-to-day management of the farm crew. The Farm General Manager will reside within commuting distance to the farm, and work on the farm each day.

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing this progressive Indiana Farm in their search for an experienced Farm General Manager. This person will lead farm production operations with primary focus on maximizing quality and revenue through their cropping operations. They will provide consultation and support to additional farming operations (including but not limited to crop production, sales, marketing, real estate, etc.) The General Manager utilizes expertise and best agriculture and land management practices to direct day-to-day operations of the farm in order to meet identified environmental and revenue goals. The General Manager will supervise an Crop Production Manager who will supervise full and part time employees as necessary. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team in the direction of the outlined mission • Coordinates with Operations Manager who implements crop management activities, including the preparations for future growth, as outlined in the Farm Business Plan • Communicates with owners on daily assessments of the farm and its goals • Monitors the effectiveness of implemented crop management strategies to ensure goals are being met. • Assists in the recruitment, hiring, and training of Farm employees, and effectively manages personnel schedules and conflicts. • Communicates with the partners to ensure infrastructure, equipment, and tools are in good working order as necessary. Maintains regular and effective communication with Management on progress, budget, opportunities, and risks • Purchases supplies, equipment, and contracts for necessary operations, meticulously tracking expenses and managing the annual budget • Engages with contractors on large-scale projects such as buildings and infrastructure • Builds relationships with potential customers • Maintains strong local relationships through regular and open communication • Able to handle other duties as required or assigned.
